Learn about the fascinating formations of Yehliu Park
A short drive from Taipei are the fascinating natural formations of Yehliu Park. Through the ages, sandstone, mud, and sand mixed through wave action and rain caused a chemical change hardened the top layer of earth. This top layer protects the layers below from erosion, leaving these fascinating pillar formations.
The Taiwanese have named these formation for the shapes they see in them including an alien to the most popular Queen's head. Since the sides of these formations can't hold water long enough to be hardened like the cap rock, the base erodes away until these formations naturally topple under their own weight.
As the Queen in Alice in Wonderland might say, Off with her head!
