In the late 1920s, several citizens of Whitefish bought over 100 acres to create a golf course. They soon found they were going to run out of money before the course was completed. The area is know for golfing and it has 8 Championship golf courses and a 1,000 lakes in a 50 mile radius . Flathead Valley was selected among the top 50 Greatest Golf Destinations in the World.
